People are overweight because of emotional problems
There is a widespread belief that overweight individuals have
more psychological difficulties than average-weight persons.
Not so, according to Weight Control Digest: "Most studies have
found no significant differences between overweight and
average-weight persons. These findings are even more surprising
when we consider the frequency of discrimination and negative
social interaction experienced by overweight individuals. Most of us
would expect the social stigma to take a greater toll."(Weight Control
Digest, November/December 1995).
